Dry eye Syndrome

Dry eye Syndrome

Dry Eye Disease is one of the most common eye conditions. In Arizona, our dry environment contributes to increase your symptoms and progression of the disease. Dry Eye is a serious condition that can dramatically affect your vision and your eye health. This condition can have multiple causes and risk factors that include age, medication, health conditions, environmental factors, near work, and computer use. Common symptoms of dry eye include red, burning, itchy eyes, excess watering, light sensitivity, gritty/sandy sensation, and fluctuations in vision.

At Scottsdale Eyeology, the doctors use a number of different technologies to determine whether you may be experiencing Dry Eye and to better understand your symptoms. Each case is unique. We consider the factors causing your dry eye as well as your tear quality to develop a custom dry eye treatment plan. Management considerations for Dry Eye include artificial tears/lubricant drops which provide short-term relief of symptoms. Other options include prescription anti-inflammatory drops and in-office obstruction removal with medical devices like The TearCare® System.

TearCare®

The TearCare® system offers natural blink technology that applies 15 minutes of precisely controlled heat to the eyelids. TearCare® targets the removal of unhealthy oil that may be causing your dry eye symptoms.

RadioFrequency Therapy

RadioFrequency technology is commonly used to help reduce the signs of aging, but it can also help ease dry eye symptoms!

This technology safely delivers bipolar RadioFrequency waves to the smaller, more delicate subdermal layers which house the meibomian glands.

Intense Pulse Light Therapy

Intense Pulse Light creates tissue heating which helps to reduce inflammation associated with conditions such as ocular rosacea.

Meibomian Gland Expression

Usually following heat treatments, this is a therapeutic procedure involving the application of gentle pressure to the eyelids to express and release the oily secretions from the meibomian glands. This process aims to unclog the glands, improve the flow of the oil portion of the tear film, and enhance its overall function.
