Astigmatism-Treatment

Astigmatism is the condition when the cornea has an irregular shape. The cornea is generally dome-shaped and covers the iris. The asymmetrical shape prevents light rays from focusing perfectly, causing blurry and distorted vision.

Causes Of Astigmatism

The cause of astigmatism is still unknown, although it is observed to be a genetic factor. It is often present at birth, but some might even develop astigmatism later in life. Astigmatism may also appear with nearsightedness and farsightedness.

5 Symptoms You Need Professional Astigmatism Treatment

Astigmatism may prevail for a long time, without the knowledge of the patient. It is crucial to take action as soon as the early signs appear. The main signs you need for professional astigmatism treatment are:

1. Blurred Vision

Astigmatism causes light to deflect in favor of one direction, instead of the opposite. This results in blurry vision. Objects can appear stretched, for some elements of an image to be more noticeable, or for the patient to have double vision.

2. Having Eye Strain

Distorted or blurry vision forces you to strain your eyes to see more clearly. The best way to counter this problem is to read in large fonts and always use good lighting at home and work.

3. Persistent Headache

Astigmatism makes it harder to focus on objects. When the eye muscles contract too much, physical fatigue triggers headaches.

4. Night Vision Issues

People with astigmatism often have trouble seeing at night, as compared to daytime. This is because the pupils dilate more in low light, which makes way for more light in the eye.

5. Eye Squinting

People squint their eyes to overcome vision problems. Astigmatism makes it difficult to see things that are far away. This problem is not solved even after wearing glasses.

The Bottom Line

Not everyone with blurry vision has astigmatism. Although the causes are unknown, it is better to see a doctor if the problem persists for a long time.

Contact lenses or glasses can help improve vision, and your eye doctor may recommend surgery. In addition to improving image, astigmatism treatment can lower the risk of side effects like a lazy eye, eye strain, and headaches.
