Blephex

BlephEx is the first and only doctor-led eyelid cleaning procedure designed to promote clean and healthy eyelids.

More than 50% of all patients experience eyelid symptoms linked to inadequate eyelid hygiene. BlephEx® is an innovative, in-office procedure that empowers your doctor to actively clean your eyelid margins. It effectively removes excess bacteria, biofilm, and bacterial toxins, the primary contributors to eyelid symptoms.

BlephEx® ensures ongoing eyelid hygiene by maintaining cleanliness and preventing symptoms with regular treatments.

How BlephEx® Works

BlephEx® is a painless in-office procedure performed by your eye care professional. It utilizes a revolutionary patented handpiece that precisely spins a soft, medical-grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes. This procedure effectively removes years of accumulated bacterial biofilm, similar to how a dental cleaning removes plaque buildup. Once the biofilm is eliminated, your eyelids become cleaner and healthier, which is crucial for normal tear production.

The patented micro-sponge is disposable, ensuring optimal cleaning and exfoliation with a fresh one used for each eye. Afterward, the eyes are thoroughly rinsed.

The procedure typically lasts 6–8 minutes, with most patients experiencing only a tickling sensation. Numbing drops are often applied to each eye before treatment to enhance comfort.

Following the procedure, you can resume your normal activities. While home cleaning routines can help, they are only partially effective. It’s recommended to undergo BlephEx® every 4-6 months as advised by your eye doctor.

Starting BlephEx® early as part of routine eye care yields better long-term results. Delaying treatment until symptoms appear may already lead to significant damage to your tear glands.
